A new report by Better Regulation Executive has highlighted the need for cutting down on unnecessary paperwork in order to ensure health and safety in small enterprises. The report has been appreciated by ROSPA. In a different news, HSE has again asserted the need of asbestos risks management.

Health and safety negligence costs firm GBP21,000 - August 8, 2008

Hampshire-based Tews Engineering has been ordered to pay a total of £21,000 in fines and costs for ignoring the health and safety of an employee.

The firm pleaded guilty to breaching Section 2(1) of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act and Regulation 3(1) of the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999.

Firms ‘must manage asbestos risks’ - August 7, 2008

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is warning employers they must manage the risks posed to their staff’s health and safety by exposure to asbestos. It follows the prosecution of R Maskell and LCH Contracts for breaching the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974.

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) has welcomed a new report by the Better Regulation Executive highlighting how health and safety regulation affects small businesses.

Man crushed on industrial site - August 5, 2008

An investigation has been launched by the Health and Safety Executive and police after an elderly man was apparently crushed to death on an industrial estate in Fort William.
The 70-year-old died after becoming caught between two vehicles at Lochaber Aggregates on the site, and the HSE as well as the local authorities are to examine the case, the Press and Journal reports.

Worker dies at distribution centre - August 4, 2008

A lorry driver has died is died in an accident at a distribution centre in Northampton, it has been reported.
